Just five days after bandits shot UK-based Glendon Codogan, another overseas-based Guyanese was the target of a similar robbery hours after arriving in the country yesterday.
Police said that US-based Guyanese Frank Mangal and two others were robbed at gunpoint at around 04.00 hrs at Success, East Coast Demerara, by a group of men who escaped in a white car.
The victims were reportedly relieved of US and local currency, documents and other valuables.
A source said that two friends picked up Mangal at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri yesterday morning. The group then travelled to Success, where they were unloading Mangal’s luggage when a white car reversed towards their vehicle.
According to reports, five men exited, held the trio at gunpoint and relieved them of their valuables before escaping.
It was just last Wednesday that 83-year-old, British-based Glendon Codogan was ambushed, shot and robbed in Shirley Field-Ridley Square, Guyhoc Gardens shortly after leaving the Cheddi jagan International Airport .
Police have managed to smash some of the so-called ‘airport gangs’ several months ago.
Two interdicted policemen were charged some months ago in connection with some of these attacks.
But the attacks on returning Guyanese seem to be raising its ugly head again.
