Embattled Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran’s recent ‘slap and strip’ tirade may land him before the courts, if women rights activist Sherlina Nageer’s attorney gives her the green light to file a police complaint against him.
And Crime Chief Leslie James yesterday made it clear that charges could be laid “against anyone” if enough evidence is provided.
Nageer indicated to Kaieteur News yesterday that her decision to file a complaint with the police lies in the hands of her Attorney.
“I have not decided as yet as to whether to file a report. I am still getting legal advice”, while adding that a decision will be made soon.
Asked if she felt intimidated by Dr. Ramsaran, Nageer said: “I don’t feel intimidated at all (although) I think he’s dangerous.”
The woman activist also refuted reports that she had spat at the Health Minister.
Asked whether Minister Ramsaran could be charged over his tirade, Crime Chief Leslie James said that “anyone can be charged, but we have not received a report from anyone. When a matter is reported and if there is evidence, then they could be charged.”
Dr. Ramsaran landed in hot water last Monday after he was recorded berating Nageer, who had queried his presence outside the Whim Magistrate’s Court, with other PPP supporters, in support of former President Bharrat Jagdeo.
In response, Ramsaran had told Nageer to “shut your mouth and get out my face.” As his tirade continued, the Health Minister also called the activist an “idiot”, told her to “F off,” referred to her as a “little piece of s**t”, then stated that he could “slap her ass,” and “have some of my women strip her here…”
And even after issuing an apology, Dr. Ramsaran was recorded labeling Nageer a “miscreant,” and saying that she was in need of “psychiatric help.”
His behavior has been condemned by some members of the diplomatic corps, dozens of political commentators and even members of his own party.
