Dear Editor,
The election campaign is on nation – wide: Berbice, North West, Rupununi, and for the PPP/C it seems that fear is the key.
The PNC (Burnham/Granger) is the spectre of fear, violence, impending famine and disasters of dimensions unimaginable should the coalition win in May.
ISIS is doing similar work for its cause but on a grander, grotesque and global scale: using fear and the awesome power of visual violence to garner support. Controlled media: thanks to the former President and his cohorts, is doing wonders for the ruling party.
Plutarch said: “no beast is more savage than man when he is possessed of power equal to his passion.” Burnham’s constitution was such a wonderful instrument, it released a beast on us, who after two terms now wants an encore.
We need a constitution that removes absolute power from the President, and has due regard for the opposition (minority). There needs to be an overhaul.
The Opposition should have been in Government, not the minority, lording it over us. Again, thanks to Burnham.
Away with that constitution, away with three Vice-Presidents. APNU+AFC, the ball is in your court come May,12th.
Michael James
