The police have arrested three persons as investigations continue into the death of Mohamed Ramzan Abrahim, 49, called ‘Terry’ or ‘Ice man’, a father of three and snow cone vendor of Lot 150 Canefield, Shieldstown, West Bank Berbice.
Abrahim was found on the roadway at Shieldstown about 20:40hrs on Saturday April 18, 2015, with an injury to his forehead.
According to the man’s relatives he left home around 16:00 hrs to go and play dominoes in the nearby De Edward Village. Information revealed that Abrahim left the area around 19:30 hrs for his home.
According to relatives, to get home, Abrahim has to pass a lonely area between a Masjid and a nursery school. The relatives stated that they are not too sure what happened.
However, around 20:45 hrs. they were alerted that Abrahim was lying on the ground in the School Street area.
When relatives hurried to the scene they found the man on the ground panting for breath. Not realizing that he was seriously injured, they picked him up and then realized that he was mortally injured and lying in a pool of blood. There was a gaping wound to his head. Parts of his brain were exposed. His spectacle was in his hand.
He was picked up and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital, before being transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently, further transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed around 06:30 hrs on Sunday April 19, 2015.
Relatives stated that the man is very quiet and friendly and lives in a wooden house with his wife Mobina Abrahim and three children, two boys’ ages 21and 19 while his daughter is 14. He sells snow cone around the area and is not known to have a problem with anybody. However, the area that he used to go home is usually an area with gamblers and drug smokers.
Abrahim leaves to mourn his wife and three children, four brothers and four sisters and numerous other relatives.
A post mortem examination was conducted on Monday on the body at the Georgetown Public Hospital by Dr Nehaul Singh and gave the cause of death as shock and haemorrhage due to incise wound.
Investigations are continuing.
