In what is seen as an act of revenge, two small houses belonging to the suspects who are being sought in connection with the murder of an Angoy’s Avenue resident, were set on fire on Thursday evening.
One of the houses was destroyed and the other was saved due to the quick response of the members of the Guyana Fire Service.
According to information the fire first began around 23:00hrs on Thursday evening in one of the houses situated in High Dam Angoy’s Avenue area. Within minutes of that fire a blaze erupted in the other house not too far away.
Information revealed that a number of plants in one of the yards were also chopped down.
The occupants of the houses are said to be the ones responsible for the shooting and chopping to death of Patrick Boodie, called ‘Budie’, and ‘Boss Man’, 46, a self-employed, of 189, Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.
He was killed around 17:20 hrs on Wednesday at High Dam Angoy’s Avenue. Injured in the fracas is his brother, Calvin Charles, 44 years, a pork knocker of Lot 195 Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam. Also injured was their cousin Jason Nicholson, 28, and a mason ad taxi driver of High Dam.
Residents described the killing incident as an act of bullyism by the men who are known characters in the area.
The perpetrators have been identified as Gibran Ally, called Bajie, 32, who was identified as the shooter and Mohammed Ally, called John, 34. Gibran was recently released from jail after serving three years on a drug running charge. After the senseless killing, residents expressed their disgust and fury at the act.
Prime Minister Hinds accompanied by Regional Chairman David Armogan and Member of Parliament, Dr Vishwa Mahadeo, visited the home of the dead man where they met with the man’s grieving widow, Sonia Boodie, and his two teenage daughters aged 19 and 16. The smaller is preparing to write the CSEC exams in a few weeks.
The woman who is also self-employed and had lost her only son last September during the Chikungunya outbreak, expressed her desire for justice for her husband. She told the visitors of the treatment she received at the New Amsterdam hospital. One of the doctors had expressed some scorn at the woman having blood on her skin.
Dr Mahadeo, who is also Chief Executive Officer of the Berbice Regional Health Authority, expressed disgust at the remark which was allegedly made by the doctor and promised a thorough investigation.
Since the incident the occupants of the two houses who are related have not been seen since.
A cutlass and some spent shells were recovered from the scene
A post mortem examination conducted on the body of Boodie by Government Pathologist Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan on Friday at the New Amsterdam Hospital concluded that he died from shock and hemorrhage due to gunshot wounds. He reportedly received seven bullet wounds. Seven bullet holes and three chop wounds were found on the body.
