Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will take on a Georgetown Select XI in a T20 fixture from 19:00hrs tomorrow.
The event is a fundraiser in aid of young Adrian Azeez Jr., who was injured by cricket ball during a Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) – second division match between DCC and the University of Guyana in February. Young Azeez suffered a fractured skull and had to undergo surgery at the Georgetown Hospital.
A release from the club stated that Azeez is recuperating well and they are trying to assist in offsetting the cost medical treatment and home schooling since he will be away from school for an extended period. In addition to the T20 match, there will be barbecue, food and drinks on sale as well as music.
“The incident was an unfortunate one, and DCC have since raised the perimeter fence by three feet and is erecting a further six feet of mesh barrier on top of the fence to minimize the recurrence of such incidents,” the release went on.
Additionally, DCC is exploring the expansion of its Insurance coverage to include injury to passers-by and damage to property/vehicles parked in the streets adjacent to the club.
The DCC and the Georgetown Select teams will be released shortly.
