Murder accused Ryan Bob Semple, who allegedly sodomized and murdered nine year-old South Ruimveldt
resident, Shaquan Gittens, was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday.
The evaluation was ordered after Semple’s Attorney, Paul Fung-A-Fat, told the court that his client is not competent to stand trial. “I know he is not competent,” the Lawyer affirmed.
Fung-A-Fat further related that he will prepare an affidavit and approach the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in relation to the matter.
Semple will be evaluated by Senior Government Psychiatrist, Dr. Bhairo Harry.
He will return to court on May 6.
Gittens was reported missing on April 1 and his body was subsequently found in a trench in the South Ruimveldt backlands.
A postmortem revealed that Gittens died of manual strangulation and drowning. There were also signs of sexual assault and the postmortem also confirmed that the child’s privates were missing.
