Almost four months after an Air Services Limited (ASL) Britten Norman Islander aircraft vanished
without a trace just after takeoff from Mahdia, the search for its missing pilot, Nicky Persaud and cargo handler, David Bisnauth, is set to recommence next Monday, April 20.
Frank Singh, the owner of Rainforest Tours and father-in-law of the missing pilot, told the media yesterday that the search will recommence after some persons in the 12-member team contracted malaria and were extracted from the densely-forested Region Eight area
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority had officially called off its search after three weeks.
Singh said the team on this occasion will be focusing on a new area at North Fork, since after careful investigation a resident and a miner within the area led the team to where the plane was last seen flying approximately 500 feet in the air and five degrees east.
He explained that all persons who made donations towards the cause can contact D. Bahadur Chartered Accountant to check on their contributions which were used in a transparent manner to execute the search mission.
Supervising the team will be Tony Melville and Frank Singh among others.
The Air Services Limited plane came off the radar shortly after takeoff from Mahdia airstrip on December 28, 2014. On board were 27-year-old Nicky Persaud and 51-year-old, David Bisnauth.
Teams from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, the Guyana Defence Force and Guyana Forestry Commission, as well as villagers joined in an extensive search and rescue mission. This was brought to an end on January 19, after aerial and ground searches, proved futile.
There have been several reported sightings of the plane by residents along the flight path and search efforts were concentrated there. Over two hundred and thirty (230) hours were flown by the helicopters and fixed wing aircraft over the Blackwater Creek basin, North Fork, Konawaruk River, Ebini, Eagle, Mowasi, Glendor mountains, Kurungiku mountain range including “Toucan Face” “Twin Towers” and Toucan Valley. The helicopters conducted multiple sorties over the Blackwater Creek and North Fork areas including locations where damaged trees and crows were observed.
The airplane bearing registration number, 8R-GHE disappeared on a routine shuttle operation from Mahdia to Karisparu.
