On Wednesday a Mocha Arcadia fisherman was released on $40,000 bail after a charge of fraudulent
conversion was brought before him.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry read the charge to Seepaul Nateram, 31 of 132 First Street Mocha, Arcadia, East Bank Demerara. Particulars of the charge stated that on April 7, at Houston, being solely entrusted with $190,000 by Jermaine Dharma, to purchase groceries, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.
Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat asked that his client be released on reasonable bail so that he could resume his job. Even though his client entered a not guilty plea, the lawyer affirmed that the matter will not go to trial, since the defendant plans to fully compensate the victim.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bharrat Mangru had no objections to bail.
Nateram’s next court appearance will be on April 27.
