The manifesto of A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) was delayed following
efforts by the two parties to merge their respective programmes into one. This was confirmed by AFC General Secretary David Patterson, who however expressed the hope that it would be made available by today.
The launch of the coalition’s manifesto had initially been slated for March 10. Though the entire document has not been made public, party officials have already spoken on a number of the parties’ plans, which form part of the manifesto.
Most recently, Presidential candidate David Granger mentioned funding for the University of Guyana (UG) as a primary focus of the coalition, should they be elected.
This comment was made at a recent forum hosted by Guyana National Youth Council (GNYC) and Guyana Women’s Roundtable (GWR) at the Theatre Guild playhouse, Parade Street, Kingston
AFC executive member Cathy Hughes also spoke of the need to implement a code of conduct for Government officials who would have committed indiscretions. This is in light of several controversies involving Government functionaries.
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has so far released a prelude of its 2015 manifesto, which the party has christened ‘Guyana version 2.0’, and in which there are details about the pursuit of the deep water harbour project, the creation of industrial and commercial zones and the continuation of the administration’s single parent training programme.
In the excerpt, emphasis was also placed on job creation, investment into Information and Communications Technology (ICT), a national rice support system for farmers so that payments are made on time, as well as support for the sugar sector, among other ventures.
