The dismembered remains of a woman of African descent were discovered near the Annandale, East Coast Demerara seawall yesterday morning.
The woman’s body minus the head, feet and arms, was discovered around 06:30 hours by a resident who was about to bathe his dog at the location.
An alarm was raised and scores of residents including schoolchildren, flocked to the scene to get a glimpse of the body which bore signs of a sexual assault.
The clothing, a blue brassiere and a red skirt, was rolled up around the midsection of the corpse.
There were bloodstains and tooth fragments not far from where the body was lodged between the rocks, and investigators believe that they belong to the victim.
“We have taken samples of the blood on the ground and we hope to have it analysed,” a police official on the East Coast of Demerara told this newspaper.
A religious artifact and a blood-stained rice bag were also discovered some distance away, yesterday morning.
According to investigators, the woman’s body appeared to have been dumped there recently. There was also conjecture that she had been butchered at the foreshore.
“We believe that some of the dismembering of the body was done at the seawall, because there were indentations on the wall as if someone was chopping something. Even if all was not done there,
something happened on the seawall,” one investigator informed.
And just when the investigators had given up finding the other body parts, the tide receded around midday, revealing the head, two feet from below the knee and two hands from below the elbow.
No one has so far come forward to identify the body but according to a detective, judging from the features, the woman appeared to have been in her late thirties or early forties.
Kaieteur News understands that the hands bore multiple chops, as if to suggest that the woman was trying to bar her face from being hacked.
“As to the face, oh God, you wouldn’t want to see it,” the detective declared.
This is the third body to be discovered within the past week. On Wednesday, the nude body of 14-year-old Campbellville Secondary School student Alicia Ali was found among the boulders in the vicinity of the University of Guyana (UG) access road, Turkeyen, ECD. Marks of violence were observed about the body.
On Sunday last, police also discovered the battered body of 29-year-old Ramesh Katarnauth on the rocky seaside of the Kitty seawall. There were a number of bruises on the victim’s face and upper body.
Last month the decomposed body of 40-year-old fisherman Sadeia Sanchar, a father of four, of Seawall Road, Montrose (ECD) was fished out of the Atlantic Ocean, in the vicinity of Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara. His body was discovered 10 days after he allegedly fell from the fishing boat that was carrying him and five other crew members. He reportedly fell overboard in the vicinity of Melanie Damishana, ECD.
