Dear Editor,
It must not go unnoticed that the People’s Progressive / Party Civic (PPP/C) propaganda machine is once again in top gear and this time it has chosen the resting place of the late President Dr. Cheddi Jagan to launched its dirties most divisive and dangerous campaign which is so shameless.
However, let’s look at the recent remarks made by former President Bharrat Jagdeo at the Babu John Memorial site in observance of the 18th death anniversary of the late President Dr. Cheddi Jagan on March 8, 2015 where it was reported that he told the gathering that the opposition said, “…Let’s throw out those coolie people from Government.”
The truth behind Jagdeo ‘s assertion on the opposition parties at Babu John is not only recklessly but false, misleading, mendacious, lies and it is all about race baiting and attempts to whip up race poison not only in Berbice but throughout the length and breadth of this the country as General and Regional elections approach .
The PPP knows very well if they were to campaign on merit, performance and issues of national concern, they will defiantly lose the General Elections on May 11, 2015 because they have not done anything to enrich the poor working class of people in the country.
That is why they are inciting race baiting because that might be their only option in surviving after May 11, 2015 General elections. The PPP is up to their old tricks but we the people need to be smart and vote dem out.
It is a known fact that the PPP/C Government could not win any elections on performance, merit and policy simply because after twenty three years in office, our country is on the way to becoming a criminalized state.
Violent crime- arson, armed robberies, police brutalities, domestic abuse, banditry, piracy, contract killings, murder and political assassination like that of former Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Agriculture Minister Satyadeo Sawh and slain political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing, Ronald Waddell and many others – has scarred our society.
Poverty and unemployment have created an army of beggars, drug addicts, destitute people, wandering girls and street children. University graduates, talented teachers, nurses and thousands of ordinary citizens race to migrate in droves from their homeland.
My fellow Guyanese at home, it is time we as a nation tell this PPP Government that the days of ethnic voting is over and we believe in change, progress and modernization under a government of national unity.
Constitutional and institutional reforms are necessary for the realization of Shared Governance and National reconciliation.
Also needed are the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission; the reform of the State, including the implementation of the Recommendations of the Disciplined Forces Commission; the establishment of a National Broadcasting Authority and legislation to ensure not only access to but Freedom of Access to Information; the establishment of a Public Procurement Commission;
The reconstitution of the Integrity Commission; the appointment of the Human Rights Commission and the reconstitution of the Ethnic Relations Commission; the implementation of agreed Local Government Reforms and the holding of Local Government Elections; the reform of the system of Taxation;
A partnership with youth to ensure their full involvement and participation in decision-making;
The Reconstruction of the society and the economy; the stewardship of a program of sustainable development; Institutional and legal mechanisms to effectively reduce and control the incidence of violence against women, children and the aged; the forensic auditing of State organizations; and infrastructure development, including energy, communications and water management.
My fellow Guyanese, remember, your vote is your voice. When we vote, we are actually telling elected officials and lawmakers how we feel about education, public safety, social security, health care, and other important issues.
