I am Courtney I am dead
What I got was three gunshots to the head,
Should I be sorry?
I received two more shots to my body
You have killed me but not my legacy
Thousands will rise up to defend our country liberties
Free speech; voices will raise up against corruption and tyranny
You were there at my funeral
It all began for me with the taped conversation with the attorney general
Everyone said the attorney was out of line, I thought so too
So for eighty days I stood alone in my picket line
Some passed and said I should quit,
I stood firm because the attorney general showed gross disrespect
I stood steadfast and would not let,
I was even charged for using the general toilet
In retrospect was I frightened, yes, twice my life was threatened
I was afraid but did not run, the only hope for change, was to urge people to vote at election.
That’s how I ended up on a lonely road in Diamond
They heard my bullhorn and sent a car of gunmen
My only defence was my voice and strong conviction
Urging people to vote for a better nation.
Rodney says if there is no struggle there is no progress
As I am laid to rest, I urge you with passion
Keep fighting for freedom of expression
That is the only way to build our nation.
I am Courtney, you are Courtney, the bullet did not stop me
We will unite as one people one nation one destiny.
