A stroke-filled unbeaten 94 from left-hander Ershad Alli guided East Bank to a
four-wicket victory over West Demerara when the Inter-Association U-19 50-over tournament continued yesterday at Everest Cricket Club.
Chasing 219, Alli struck twelve fours as East Bank ended on 222-6 in 46.5 overs. Alli and Ryan Shun steadied the chase after their team lost three early wickets to be at 45-3. The pair virtually took the game away from their opponents as they added 124 for the fourth wicket with level headed batting. Shun slammed eight fours and one six before he was dismissed for 68. Off-spinner Richie Looknauth claimed 2-40.
Earlier, openers Kelvin Shewpersaud and Ronaldo Renee gave West Demerara a bright start with a stand of 55 before Renee was caught and bowled by Dexroy Williams for 29. Shewpersaud then shared in a second wicket stand of 62 with Akshaya Persaud, but when Alli trapped Shewpersaud lbw for 35, East Bank managed to restrict the scoring to some extent. Persaud went for 28. However, Chetnarine Pooran beefed up the total with 31.
West Demerara lost nine wickets with Ryan Shun capturing 3-36, Paul Thomas 2-9 and Daniel Barker 2-29. (Zaheer Mohamed)
