A city magistrate denied a man his pre-trial liberty after he was arraigned for unlawful assault.
Randolph Sanasie, who resides at Lot 1 Independence Street, La Grange, denied that on March 1, at Upper Berbice River, he unlawfully assaulted Ron Jones, so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
Police prosecutor Bharrat Mangru did not provide the court with any details about what transpired on the day in question. Mangru objected to the defendant being released on bail, because the victim is still hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He also took into consideration the nature and gravity of the offence, the penalty the offence attracts if the defendant is found guilty, and the possibility that he might not return to court if granted bail.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry told the accused that she would consider granting him bail once the victim is released from the hospital. She ordered that he return to court on March 11.
