Dear Sir,
Being an event planner myself and cognizant of all the dynamics/logistics involved, I say kudos to Mr. McDonald and his organizing team for the smooth execution of the actual games.
However here are a few things that needs addressing prior to the 2016 games:
1. Start time – Ads on TV suggested this event would begin at 10:00 am, but started 35 minutes thereafter. Being a stickler for time I was bored for 35 minutes.
Suggestion: If it takes a great deal of time setting up the actual equipment for the individual event, start doing that much earlier or shift the start time to 11:00am instead.
2. Being an all-day event, more palatable food choices were needed. I was there with my fellow gym buddies and I enjoyed the healthy food choices, Heavenly Foods had on offer. My buddies however opted for the other food choice and were sorely disappointed with the taste.
3. Registration for the actual teams should be advertised in print and other forms of the media long in advance. Just as the ad started to air on TV for Games Guyana edition, calls were made to both E-Networks and Fitness Express to have our gym registered. This proved futile since we were informed in both instances that registration had already closed.
This was a clear indicator that the organizers’ had already preselected the teams of whom they wanted to participate. In such events “transparency” is imperative. This did not auger well for such a prestigious event.
