Around 10:30 hrs yesterday police arrested a man in a house at Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, while he was trying to remove a sink from the property.
The house has been vacant for the past several months. The thief, who has not yet been identified, is said to be a known “house thief”.
According to information received, a security guard who was stationed at the property next door was doing her normal patrol around the property when she saw the man in the middle flat of the three-storey property.
He was allegedly removing a sink. The man reportedly gained entry into the building from an opened door.
When this newspaper visited the scene yesterday, an eyewitness said that when the guard saw him in the property, she shouted on him to get out but he refused to leave.
“He continued taking out the sink and the security called the police. The police went in the house and arrested him,” the eyewitness said.
Kaieteur News was told that the owner of the house is not in the country.
