The body of an unidentified male was fished out of a canal in the vicinity of Square of the Revolution, home to the 1763 Monument, yesterday afternoon by police.
According to reports, at approximately 14:00hrs, some schoolchildren were passing the canal when they spotted the body partially submerged in the water. Police were subsequently summoned.
A messenger bag suspected to belong to the dead man, containing pictures and documents, was present at the scene, as well as an empty Vodka bottle.
The crime scene investigator did not seem to find any marks of violence. In his pants pockets, a wallet with cash inside, a comb and a small bunch of keys on a green tag were found.
The man, who appeared to be in his late thirties, was clad in a red plaid shirt, white sweat pants and black sneakers.
The body was subsequently removed to Lyken Funeral Home.
