Rose Hall Town Jammers registered an upset win over defending champions New Amsterdam Warriors and sealed a semifinal spot when play in the Anamayah Memorial Inter Club first division basketball competition continued at the Rose Hall Town Basketball Court last Saturday afternoon.
Despite enjoying home advantage, the ‘Jammers’ started the game as the underdogs, but emerged victorious 47-40 when the smoke had cleared. Displaying determination and grit against a tame and disorganized Warriors combination, the eventual winners enjoyed a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Warriors managed to regroup in the second quarter displaying glimpses of their old self and scored 12 points while the opposition sunk 6 points to end that session with a slim 16-19 advantage.
The Jammers again opened up in the third quarter and dunked 14 points while restricting the opposition to 9 and extending the lead 33-25. The final stanza was evenly contested as the Jammers pulled off all the stops in their bid to secure the advantage. The Jammers refused to be denied and held their own to the end to cart off the spoils.
Top scoring for the winners were Emon Wiggins and Antonio Islam with 12 points each while Percy Cort contributed 9 points. Shemroy Mc Kenzie led the way for The New Amsterdam Warriors with a game high 18 points while his teammate, Kirk Fraser and Edmar Semple scored 9 and 7 points respectively.
Rose Hall Town will now await the winner of the next semi final between Hopetown Steelers formerly Hopetown Warriors and Symthfield Rockers, who are scheduled to face off at Hopetown West Berbice on a date to be announced.
The top two teams and outstanding individual players will be presented with trophies and other incentives. Activities are being coordinated by Vibert Garrett.
