The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) 2015 season swam off yesterday with the staging of the Mashramani Long Course Swim Meet at the National Aquatic Centre, Lilendaal.
This meet which is also being used as Time Trials for the CARIFTA 2015 Swimming Championship which will be held in Barbados in early April. It was opened with presentations by the President of CONSONAT Mr. Juan Carlos, Vice President of FINA Mr. Dale Newburger and GASA President Mr. Ivan Persaud.
In the pool, Hannibal Gaskin of the Dorado Swim Club (DSC) captured his first gold of the day in the Boys 15-17 age group taking the 50m Butterfly. Gaskin followed that up with wins in the 400m Freestyle, and made it a triple by taking the 100m Freestlyle.
Andrew Fowler, swimming for the Dolphin Speed Swim Club in the Boys 18 and Over category took Gold in the 50m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle. Daniel Scott, another Dorado member had a glorious day as he swam to triple gold medals.
Competing in the Boys 13-14 age group, Scott took gold in the 200 IM, 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke. He had to settle for silver in the 100m Freestyle losing the Gold to Antonio Hussein.
Onika George, representing Silver Sharks was golden in the Girls 15-17 age group topping the field in the 50m Butterfly, 400m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle events. Other winners on day one yesterday were Satyanand Ramlagan (DSC) who captured gold in the 50m Breaststroke in the Boys 15-17 age group.
Soroya Simmons (DSC) grabbed Gold in the 100m, 400m and 800m Freestyle competing in the Girls 18 and Over category; Dolphin’s Kenita Mahaica Gold in the Girls 13-14 50m Breaststroke; Dorado’s Riley Nurse won double gold in the Girls 9-10 in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke. Today is the final day, warm up starts at 10:00hrs with competition time at 11:00hrs.
