The Youth Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in partnership with the East Coast Football Association will be hosting an Inter-Village Football Competition titled “Mash Grudge Match” in observance of Guyana’s 45th Republic Anniversary.
The matches will be held tomorrow at the Golden Grove Community ground kicking off at 16:00hrs when Buxton Stars will match skills with Golden Stars. The feature game is a potentially mouth watering grudge match between East Bank Football Association #1 team Grove Hi-Tech who will take on East Demerara’s Ann’s Grove United.
When the two teams last met on January 1, 2015, Grove Hi Tech hammered their Ann’s Grove counterparts to win the inaugural Stag Super 16 knock-out competing which also involved teams from the Berbice Football Association.
According to the ministry, this competition seeks to encourage, promote, foster and develop the sport of football amongst members of the football teams; encourage competition in the sport of football within communities and regional level participation; provide elite players with the opportunity to play at a higher level within their country and provide footballers with the opportunity for selection in representative teams.
