Regal defeated Farm by seven wickets, while Floodlight overcame Regal
Masters by six wickets to win the open and over-40 titles respectively when the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc (GSCL Inc) second Republic Cup concluded on Sunday at GNIC ground.
Batting first in the open segment, Farm managed 137-8 off their allotted 15 overs. Lennox Marks scored 45 (2×4,5×6) and Rajesh Reddy 43 (3×4,4×6). Delroy Perreira claimed 3-28. Regal replied with 137-3 in 10.3 overs. Man of the match Richard Latiff clobbered 60 (5×4,6×6) and Narine Dutchin 35 not out (2×4,3×6). Vishal Phillips, Patrick Khan and Vidan Da Silva had one wicket each.
In the Over-40 division, Regal Masters posted 227-3 in 20 overs. Mahendra Arjune stroked an unbeaten 111, inclusive of nine sixes and six fours and Rudolph Baker cracked 83 (7×4,6×6). The pair added 197 for the second wicket stand after Regal lost their first scalp with the score on 15. Ramesh Narine and Richard Khellawan had one wicket apiece.

Floodlight responded with 228-4 in 17.3 overs. Narine shared in a 102-run third wicket stand with Greg De Franca who made 37 (3×4, 3×6). Lloyd Rooplall supported with 34 (7×4). Mahendra Hardyal snared 2-47, while Raymond Harper and Arjune had one each. Narine was given the man of the match prize.
In the Open category, Regal pocketed a trophy and $80,000, while Farm took home a trophy and $40,000. Floodlight received a trophy and $200,000 and Regal Masters a trophy and $100,000. The competition was sponsored by Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Mike’s Copy Centre, Metro, Memorex, Elegance Jewellery and Pawn Shop and Dereck’s Variety Store.
