Three men are in custody as police continue their investigations into the robbery of a Black Bush farmer and his family.
The police are hunting the bandits who robbed Black Bush Polder cash crop farmer Chandradat Roopnarine, called “Blacks”, 62; his wife Seelana Roopnarine, 58, a house wife; and his daughter, Rakeel Roopnarine, 24, all of Lot 29 Johanna, Black Bush Polder.
The family members were all at home on Monday evening when they were robbed by the three armed bandits.
The family who lived in a two flat wooden house was robbed of $260,000 in local currency, US$800, two gold bangles worth $260,000, one gold chain and one cell phone.
The men who were armed with one long gun and two cutlasses were dressed in dark coloured clothing, long sleeve shirts and gloves.
According to Roopnarine, it was around 23:45 hrs when they heard a loud explosion. The man stated that after that he heard loud knocking on one of the doors of his house. He decided to get out of bed to investigate and was confronted by the three bandits.
He was ordered to lie flat on the ground as the men made demands for cash and jewelry. He was relieved of whatever jewelry he was wearing. His family was accosted and relieved of the jewelry they were wearing also even as the men proceeded to ransack the house.
After finding the above mentioned items the men made good their escape.
The police were informed and responded promptly. However the men had made their escape.
Acting on information, the police arrested the three known characters. They are still hunting a few others.
