There were even more spectacular displays as the Georgetown Regional Children’s School Competition entered its third day.
The Regional Schools’ competition is part of Mashramani 2015 being observed under the theme “One People, One Culture, One Celebration”. Scores of private and public schools were registered for entry in the competition. Most of the competitors impressed audiences with their showcases.
Coming out on top in the 11 to 13 years category of the Individual Dance II segment, were Richard Ishmael Secondary with “Triumphant” performed by Gaalyah Yasreal. Taking second and third places respectively were St. Rose’s High with “Splendour of Love” by Ziya Rambarran and North Georgetown Secondary’s performance entitled “Supplication of a Child” by Aaliyah Chesney.
In the same age category for the Group Dance II segment, North Georgetown was awarded first place, with St. John’s College bringing second and Central High walking away with third place.
As the day progressed with the Individual Dance II segment in the 14 to 17 age category, North Georgetown Secondary beat out the competition with the piece entitled “A Portrait of My Life” which was performed by Latonyah Asim. Tutorial High’s Soprana Hendericks walked away with second, leaving Richard Ishmael Secondary’s Karisma Clarke with third.
In the group category, South Ruimveldt Secondary copped first place with “Ancestral Legacy”, while Bishops’ High was awarded second from their performance of “Competitive Celebration”.
North Georgetown once again placed in one of the top three positions with “Rhythms of Mother Earth”.
On a more contemporary note, the Hip-Hop portion of the competition saw St. Joseph High placing first with Bishops’ High and Christ Church Secondary awarded second and third positions respectively.
First place winners in this competition will move on to compete in the National Dance and Masquerade Competition come February 12 at the National Cultural Centre.
