The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed disappointment and shock with the non-selection of left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul to replace Sunil Narine who pulled out of the World Cup.
The statement said that the board was first disappointed with his exclusion from the team in the first instance. However, when Narine announced his withdrawal, the BCB was confident that Permaul would have been the obvious choice. The new panel of selectors stated that it is time for rebuilding with the younger players who perform consistently and Permaul’s returns in the ongoing four day and recently concluded one day tournaments has been exceptional.
He is fast improving as an all rounder. He collected 32 from 4 games in the four day format and 11 in the one day format. His improving with every innings and his fielding ability is well known.
Permaul is eight years younger than Nikita Miller, a left arm spinner as well. The board is puzzled and calls on The Legendary Clive Lloyd and his team to be consistent in their selection policy. West Indies cricket is at the lowest ever and actions like this will help it to remain so.
