-tournament kicks off tomorrow
Nestle Milo Brand representative Renita Sital speaking at the presentation of footballs to the respective schools participating in the 3rd Edition of the
Under-20 Schools tournament yesterday, made another stirring plea to parents and guardians to come out and witness their sons and relatives exhibit their skills during the competition which kicks off tomorrow, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Sital, who admitted that the tournament has become part of her, beseeched the coaches and teachers to ensure that family members come out and be among the fans at the games since it is a great source of encouragement for the young players.
The occasion which was conducted at the Ministry of Education ground had in attendance students, teachers and Co-Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Menconca, the entity responsible for organising the event, saw representatives of the thirty-two schools that were chosen receive two footballs each as assisting them in their preparations for the tournament.
Mendonca in his remarks spoke of the Organisation’s delight to be once again part of the tournament and commended Nestle Milo and the Beepat’s Management for showing the confidence in their organisational acumen and at the same time helping in the further development of the sport and young people.
He also hailed the efforts made by the Normalisation Committee of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) which recently installed a Technical Director, a move he described as excellent and one that could definitely fast track the development of the sport.
”We’ve seen recently the appointment of a full time Technical Director and this is indeed a great move by the Normalisation Committee so whatever efforts we make, hopefully will be incorporated into the plans of the GFF,” Mendonca stated.
He called the move a sign of positivity and one that will augur well for the sport going forward. The Ministry of Health under the ‘Gender-based Violence’ theme and the Ministry of Education are also on board.
Meanwhile, the four games scheduled to be played on opening day are: Freeburg versus Charlestown at 11:00hrs and that will be followed by the clash between North Georgetown and Mae’s from 12:20hrs.
Queen’s College then tackles School of Nations at 14:00hrs and in the final game at 15:30hrs Kingston square off against Tucville. Ministry of Education ground is the venue for all the matches.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
