-Admiral United, Showstoppers, Raiders also win
Tournament favourite Den Amstel made it two victories from as many matches when they defeated Showtime by a 2-1 margin as the preliminary
rounds of the inaugural West Demerara Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition continued on Tuesday night, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.
On target for the winners were Delon Lanferman, who opened the scoring in the 5th minute, firing a shot into the left hand corner after receiving a pass from the left flank and Kester Dundas, who netetd the vital go-ahead goal in the 18th minute of play which sealed the win.
Showtime had gained the equaliser through Mark Boyce, whose fierce shot following an interception raced down the centre of the goal in the 10th minute of play.
In other results: Admiral United enjoyed a similar margin of victory over Uitvlugt, but this time on penalty kicks after regulation time failed to separate a 1-1 stalemate.
Devon Jansen had given Admiral United the early lead after three minutes of play, before the wily veteran Owen MmcGarrell levelled the proceedings in the 12th minute and the scoreline remained that way until the final whistle sounded.
Pouderoyen Showstoppers edged Jetty 3-2 on sudden death kicks after both teams failed to trouble the scoresheet in regulation time.
Raiders beat Majee Street 2-1 with Adrian Birch netting in the 7th minute after a neat interchange, before Sean Swan added the other in the 18th for a 2-0 lead.
Majee Street through Morvin Henry reduced the deficit in the 22nd minute, but could not manufacture another goal to slide to defeat.
Patentia Street Ballers squeezed past Demerara Speedboat 4-3 on sudden death kicks after regulation time finished nil-all and DeKinderen United beat Brothers United by a 2-1 margin.
Lynden Bourne and Parfiel Grant netted for the victors in the 7th and 9th minutes respectively, while Adami Hoyte scored for the losers in the 11th minute.
Golden Stars defeated Vergenoegen All-Stars 2-1 with Kevin Richards in the 3rd minute and Nickosi Holder’s 20th minute strike ensuring victory. Andre Gould’s effort in the 17th minute had briefly left the game tied.
West Side Ballers beat Samaroo Dam 3-1 through a brace from Anthony Harding in the 5th and 15th minutes, while Quessey Alleyne added the other in the 7th minute. The lone marksman for Samaroo Dam was Kishawn Critchlow, who scored in the 8th minute.
The final round of group fixtures is slated to commence today, at the Vergenoegen Rice Mill Tarmac with eight matches scheduled.
In the opening fixture at 19:00hrs, DeKinderen tackle Golden Star, while Admiral United square off against Showtime from 19:30hrs.
The third matchup will be bewteen Patentia Street Ballers and Majee Street from 20:00hrs, while Demerara Speedboat engage Raiders from 20:30hrs.
At 21:00hrs, Jetty battle West Side Ballers, while Showstoppers and Samaroo Dam take to the field at 21:30hrs.
Uitvlugt then tackle Den Amstel from 22:00hrs, before Brothers United and Vergenoegen All-Stars bring the curtains down at 22:30hrs.
