(Antigua Chronicle) – Quinternela Anthony, the woman charged with causing the death of construction worker, Murtland Bagot, by dangerous driving, got EC$10,000 bail when she appeared before Magistrate Dexter Wason in the Traffic Court on Monday.
Reports are that Anthony was made to pay EC$1,000 cash up front and surrender her travel documents.
She is set to appear in court for committal on April 8, 2015, and is required in the meantime to report to Parham Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Anthony, 32, of Vernons, was arrested and charged on Sunday, for causing the death of Murtland Bagot, 51, of Grays Hill, by Dangerous Driving.
Bagot, a construction worker who hails from Guyana, was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the Mount St. John’s Medical Center, following a traffic collision on Sir Sydney Walling Highway on Thursday last.
Bagot was the country’s first road fatality for the year.
The Police Administration have now made it policy, in accordance to section 70 of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Cap 460 to suspend the Driver’s Licence of anyone who is charged with Reckless or Dangerous Driving or Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, pending the determination of the charge; whether summarily or Indictable.
