Court regular Clifton Ramsaran, called ‘Witch’, is back in jail—this time he’ll serve a three-year stretch on a break and enter and larceny charge. Ramsarran, along with two brothers, are accused of breaking into the house of Shirley Chesney of Lot 90 Palmyra Village, East Canje, on January 17th and stealing over $500,000 in cash, jewellery and other items.
Ramsarran pleaded guilty to the crime, while the other accused, Ravin Samaroo, 40, called ‘Pony,’ and Alvin Samaroo, 36, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, pleaded not guilty.
The men appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus on Friday in The New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
The Samaroo brothers were placed on $75,000 bail.
Relating the state’s case, Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff told the court that the men removed the hinges from the back door of the victim’s house and stole a gas bottle, a BMX bicycle, a quantity of bed-sheets, two CD players, one DVD player, a blender and a quantity of cash and jewelry.
The items were subsequently left in an empty lot a short distance from where they were stolen.
Police subsequently arrested Ramsarran, who allegedly fingered the Samaroo brothers. They were subsequently arrested.The Prosecutor informed the court that most of the items were recovered.
Meanwhile, Anthony Bristol, 25, of Archer Street, Cumberland, East Canje was also charged with receiving stolen property. He is accused of receiving a gas cylinder which was stolen from Chesney’s house. Acting on information the police visited Bristol’s house and allegedly found the stolen item behind a door.
In court Bristol pleaded not guilty and was released on $20,000 bail.
The three accused will return to court on February 27th.
