Dear Editor,
Now that the date for Elections has been announced, and Parliament will soon be dissolved, I would be grateful to know what will become of the Ethnic Relations Commissioners who should have been sworn in since August of 2014. Will this process of selecting the Commissioners have to be redone or is there still hope that these persons will be sworn in before the parliament is dissolved so that this body may be able to play an active role in the upcoming elections.
I realize that with this body being dormant, it is to the advantage of the political parties who will soon begin campaigning, and with the Commission out of the picture, the “race card” may be the theme of the parties involved.
It is my humble opinion that it would be in the interest of all the parties concerned to have this body functioning as it should before the elections.
D. Stevenson
