Antigua- A 51-year-old Guyanese national has become this country’s first road fatality for 2015.
Murtland Bagot lost his life in a traffic accident on the Sir Sydney Walwyn Highway on Thursday.
Bagot was one of a number of construction workers who were on their way to Crabb’s Peninsula to board the ferry for Jumby Bay, when the truck they were travelling in collided with a silver Suzuki van which was heading in the opposite direction.
The accident, police reports say, took place shortly after 8:00 am.
According to an eyewitness, Bagot was violently thrown from the back of the vehicle where he was seated, and his body collided with the moving van before landing yards away from the scene.
He was taken to the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Family members said the father of four was “fun loving and an avid sports fan.”
Bagot has been living in Antigua & Barbuda for the past 19 years. (caribbeannewsservice.com)
