Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to your attention a terrible and unacceptable noise nuisance which affects the residents living in and around the junction of LBI Estate Road and the railway embankment (area close to the LBI Mosque and Earl’s Court).
This intolerable nuisance is generally on weekends and consists of extremely loud, nerve wrecking and annoying music; nonstop until the early morning hours (3 – 4 am).
What compounds the problem is the apparent unwillingness or ability (or both) of the BV Police to put a stop to this abuse of residents’ right to enjoy peaceful rest after an honest day’ work.
An example will illustrate the complacent attitude of the BV Police.
On Saturday night, there was commencement of this outrageously loud music. It continued into Sunday Morning (Jan 21 2015). At 2.40 am, after my family and I could no longer take this assault to our eardrums, I called the BV Station to report same. I was assured that the matter would be speedily addressed.
We waited hopefully for some relief but there was none- the music continued playing at top volume.
At 3.27 am another call was made to the BV Station. This time the officer indicated that checks were made and the music was turned down so they couldn’t identify the source. This was impossibility since the music never abated.
When I insisted that the loud music was still ongoing, the officer told me to give him my name and address! I inquired as to the reason for same; the ridiculous answer was that so he could come to see where the music was coming from!
I refused to provide the information asked for. I was in for an even greater shock- I was asked for my number! (I was calling from a blocked number). I again refused and indicated that I was going to send a text to Minister Rohee.
To our grateful relief, the music stopped completely at 4.00 am.
On behalf of the residents and my family, I wish to thank the Minister for the immediate relief that the use of his name brought.
We also appeal to the few unprofessional police officers at the BV Station to change their attitude and wear their uniform with the pride and dignity it deserves. Remember your duty is to serve and protect.
We are hardworking residents engaged in the constructive work of nation building. We have a right to PEACE and QUIET. So noisemakers, respect that right just as we respect your right to play music in a decent and civilized manner.
Minister Rohee, we also appeal to you to continue reading the riot act to complacency and unprofessionalism in the Police force, especially at the BV station.
