One of Guyana’s top cycling clubs, the Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice will on Saturday 31st January hold their 14th annual presentation and awards
ceremony at the New Amsterdam Town Hall beginning at 19:00 hrs. The club will be awarding top cyclists for their outstanding performance throughout the year 2014. The club will also be recognizing the officials and sponsors who have contributed significantly to the club achievements during the year and past years.
Top cyclist Ray Millington and top female Marica Dick are tipped to ride away with the top awards. Also expected to receive awards are Elijah Brijjader as the runner up top cyclist. Audrel Ross is in line for the most promising junior rider prize. Veteran riders Wasim Hasnoo and Sybrone Fernandes will compete for the top veteran award. A number of club officials and executives will also be recognized for their contribution and outstanding achievements during the year.
A special invitee will deliver the feature address.
Club Coach and founder Randolph Roberts is expected to give an overview of the Club since its formation, some 27 years ago. Today it is one o the top cycling clubs in Guyana.
An outstanding youth sports personality in Berbice is also expected to be recognized.
The club will also like to take the opportunity to thank all those who supported it during the past year including Guyana Beverage Company, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Water Crest Hotel, First Impression Hotel, Furniture World, Arokium Funeral Home, Kings Jewelry World, Guyana Bank of Trade and Industries, Republic Bank, the various Media houses including Kaieteur News, The Guyana Police Force, Commander of Police B Division Assistant
Commissioner Brian Joseph and The Guyana Cycling Federation among others.
The club will also like to thank its overseas based riders who continue to support them including Canadian based Wilbert Benjamin, London based Franco Crawford and United States based Winston Thomas.
Meanwhile, preparations continue for the club’s first event for the year set for this Sunday with the staging of the third annual Benjamin Sports Store open 50 miles cycle road race sponsored by former national cyclist Wilbert Benjamin. The event will be held from Fyrish to No 51 police station and back to its place of origin. A number of lucrative prizes are up for grabs. All the top riders in the country are expected to participate. (Samuel Whyte)
