A 21-year-old miner is the latest Essequibian to take his life. The Lima Sea Dam, Essequibo resident,
Leroy Cornelius was discovered by his sister, Tracie Cornelius, hanging from a beam in their fowl pen Sunday afternoon.
Cornelius, who worked in the interior as a miner, came home on December 18, last, his birthday, and was imbibing with his friends at a spot at Lima, moments before he took his life, his sister Nadia Cornelius said.
According to a tearful Cornelius, her family had attended church. When her brother left his Lima Sea Dam home she questioned him if he was coming back home. Cornelius said her brother didn’t look back as he shook his head.
She said later that day she visited the spot where her brother was drinking with his friends. She said her brother never shared any of his grievances with his family; but indicated that her brother had problems with his friends.
Cornelius said that later Sunday her brother came home and reported to his niece that he was drunk and retrieved his towel and headed into the bathroom. She said a moment later, it appeared as something struck her brother and he fell. Cornelius said her brother later ventured to the back of the yard where he ended his life.
She said while in church her sister was sensing something amiss and after inquiring about her brother when she returned home, she ventured at the back of the yard where she discovered him hanging from a beam in their fowl pen. Cornelius was the youngest of seven. A post mortem examination is scheduled to be performed before his burial.
Recently, an 84-year-old Golden Fleece pensioner was discovered hanging from a beam in her bedroom. She was a re-migrant living with her sister.
Meanwhile, another 33-year-old Golden Fleece resident was discovered dead behind his yard after he had consumed a poisonous substance. And just before the New Year, a father of two had ended his life by consuming poison.
The Devonshire-Castle man previously attempted to kill his two young children. He was described as a miserable and frustrated individual.
