Cash crop farmer, Megnauth ‘Bazaar’ Seetaram, 62, lost his life shortly after noon on Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle on the Number 8 Village Road, West Coast Berbice.
According to his sister, Parbattie Singh, her brother was cycling to his farm at Cotton Tree, WCB when he was struck by the driver of a “speeding Tundra,” which was heading in the opposite direction. He died on the spot.
“Me hear he was on the road waiting to cross the road and a Tundra knock he down,” Singh said. “He was riding a bicycle going to his farm at Number 8 Village.”
Seetaram lived alone and has a 33- year- old son, Rajendra Seetaram.
Ambika Singh, his niece, related that her uncle was “a very quiet and friendly person…very easy going—doesn’t drink and so.” She noted that he was a farmer all his life.
The body is awaiting a post-mortem exam at the Fort Wellington mortuary, while the driver, who hails from Georgetown, was taken into custody.
