Authorities in neighbouring Suriname have recovered the body of the Guyanese man who fell off a tug on Wednesday.
Relatives confirmed that the body of 28-year-old Rawle Henry, called ‘Brown,’ was recovered last Friday a short distance from the area where the mishap occurred.
Henry’s grandmother said that persons who were working on the vessel notified them. She said the family was told that her grandson would have to be buried in Suriname.
Henry, of Dazell Housing Scheme, Paradise, East Coast Demerara, is believed to have fallen overboard after tripping over a rope.
Henry, who has a two-year-old daughter, was working with a company that transports logs via river in the Dutch-Speaking Republic.
The incident reportedly occurred just after 17:00 hours, minutes after he had spoken to close relatives in Guyana via telephone.
Relatives said that Henry, a former employee of the National Communications Network and CNS Channel Six, recently returned to Suriname after spending the Christmas holidays here.
