As investigation continues into last Sunday’s rape of a 45-year-old woman by her 23-year-old nephew at the woman’s No. 67 Village, Corentyne residence, the man remains in custody.
Investigators are preparing to send the file to the DPP for advice.
According to information the woman who lives alone, was at home when her nephew who would frequently visit her home, broke into the house. An argument ensued and the man began to harass the woman. He eventually overpowered her and raped her. It is understood that the woman was also sodomised.
The man who lives at No 58 Village, Corentyne was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he committed the act. The woman was able to shout for help and residents nearby came to her rescue. The man was given a sound thrashing.
The woman was subsequently taken to the Skeldon Hospital where she was treated while the perpetrator was eventually arrested and taken into custody.
He reportedly confessed to the crime and told investigators that he was drunk and did not know what he was doing.
