The Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. (GSCL) will be hosting the second ‘Guyana Republic Cup’, set to commence on January 31 will be played in the Open and Over-40 categories, both divisions lasting 20 overs.
The first place prize in each competition is $300,000 with the runner-up taking home $100,000, along with trophies and medallions. Teams desirous of competing in the tournament which will be played at the Demerara Cricket Club, Everest Cricket Club and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) grounds, are asked to submit their registration fees of $60,000 for both categories, to GSCL Inc Treasurer Russell Jadbeer (626 8228 or 226 4205) at 69 Seaforth Street, Campbellville.
The closing date for registration is Tuesday January 27, the day set aside for the launch of the tournament. The drawing of fixtures will be done in a fair and transparent manner at the GNIC, Sports Club on Woolford Avenue. The first eight teams to register will be allowed to compete.
Among the teams expected to take part in the open category are Wolf’s Warriors, Berbice Titans, Regal XI, Memorex, Speedboat and Trophy Stall while Regal Masters, Savage Masters and Industry Super Kings should be among the list of competitors in the Over-40 division.
Admission to all venues including Everest which will host the final on February 8 is free. Playing conditions will be announced at the launch.
