Dear Editor,
Please allow me a space in your sports column to share with the public some malpractice that took place during the recent so-called Berbice Cricket Board elections whereby a new executive body was installed. Like every cricketing nation, club and administration we all look forward towards lifting the standard of the game in the most decent and legal manner. But this was not the case in the BCB elections.
During that election a decision had to be made to have the Berbice River Cricket representatives voted although their names differ from that which was submitted to the BCB. Those that were present at the election and took that awkward decision in allowing for the reps from the Berbice River to vote should have asked themselves, Are those persons really the true representatives of the Cricket Clubs in that area?. If they really were then why is it that their names were not submitted to the BCB or why is it their names differ from that which was submitted to attend and vote? Some serious questions needs to be asked and some very good answers must be given by those that allowed those people to vote on behalf of the cricket clubs in the Berbice River.
Much concern must also be given that the Berbice River area is having problems with its cricket administration because it was reported at that election that there are two factions in the area that run cricket. This means that no one can determine whether those reps were sent and more over we cannot determine which faction is the legal faction. Therefore both factions had to be illegal.
This now brings me to the point where it was decided by the BCB that the two factions will be given the opportunity to vote. How can the BCB\reps present give permission for the illegal factions to vote? How can those votes be legally counted when we do not know which faction is the illegal one (if any)?
At this point I would also like for the Ombudsman and the public to note that non-existent clubs were also represented at the BCB elections and were given the opportunity of voting. The present secretary elected, voted on behalf of the Mount Sinai Cricket Club, which did not participate in cricket for the past two decades or so. Some of the other non existing clubs that voted are Mental Hospital and Kildonan. Another club was given the opportunity to vote although it does not have voting rights since it is a second division club. (Chesney Cricket Club).
More over Mr. Malcolm Peters was never appointed as a life member.
Therefore, I will conclude in saying that the BCB election was fraud and can be deemed illegal.
I am now calling on the cricket clubs and sub-associations in Berbice that were entitled to vote to condemn the election and demand that a new election held.
I am also calling on the newly appointed Cricket Ombudsman to investigate the BCB administration put cricket in the hands of legally elected officials.
Yours Truly,
