Three bandits who had broken into the home of a resident at Fort Ordnance, East Canje Berbice, on Christmas Night did not cater for the swift response of the police. After gathering intelligence and conducting surveillance, the police swooped down on a house at Fort Ordnance and in the process nabbed three thieves.
The bandits, who were in a house with a quantity of stolen items, were still in the process of dividing their ill-gotten gains.
The men Jaegdesh Jaelall, 37, and Andrew Patterson 42, of 972 Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice and Balram Ramkisoon, 41, of Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice are all labourers. They were subsequently charged with break and enter and larceny.
They are accused of breaking and entering the dwelling house of Suruj Nandkumar, and stealing $125,000 in local Currency, US$250 and a quantity of clothing.
According to information, on the night in question the victim secured his home and left around 20:30 hrs. He returned around 22:00 hrs. and noticed four louver panes removed from a window of the house. Upon entering, he noticed the entire place ransacked. Further checks revealed the cash and items missing.
The matter was reported and the police acting on information swooped down on the house in which the men were staying and arrested them.
They were charged and appeared in court, before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus. They were granted $75,000 bail each.
