A 22-year-old miner accused of robbing three people at gunpoint was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman on several armed robbery charges.
Howard Rambarose of Lot 6 Meadow Bank, Greater Georgetown, who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, is alleged to have robbed three persons on October 31, 2014, at Eighth Street, Diamond Housing Scheme.
The court heard that Rambarose, while in the company of others, brandished a gun and robbed Anasa Charles of an Alcatel cellular phone valued at $10,000. It is also alleged that on the same day, also at Eighth Street, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Soma Persaud of $500,000 cash and Merisatta Singh of $40,000.
The 22-year-old pleaded not guilty to the three charges and submitted an application for bail through his lawyer, Dexter Todd.
In his bid for bail, Todd said that his client is currently facing charges before Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the said courts. He claimed that no identification parade was conducted and the police failed to conduct a thorough investigation.
Though no facts were read in Court, Police Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth asked for Rambarose to be remanded. He objected to bail due to the serious nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence as well as the penalty of the crime.
Furthering his objection, he said that Rambarose confessed to the crime and his fingerprints were found at the scene. Ricknauth said that the accused is a possible flight risk.
Rambarose was remanded and the case is set to be called again on January 23.
