The New Amsterdam Hospital recorded a whopping six births on the first day of 2015. The Region Six institution also recorded seven Christmas Day babies.
Medical Superintendent of the facility, Dr. Vishalya Sharma noted that a pair of twins was also delivered on Boxing Day. She noted that there are over 1,800 live births at the Regional Hospital on an annual basis, describing the figure as “exciting.”
When Kaieteur News visited the Maternity ward, each of the six mothers related how excited she was about delivering ‘a New Year’s baby”. One mother, Anna Abdullah underwent a Caesarian Section; an accomplishment in the face of adversity, according to Dr. Sharma.
The mothers who delivered New Year’s Day babies on January 1, 2015 are: Sasha Dey of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam; Ameena Margow of Number 71 Village, Corriverton; Alisa Narayan of Angoy’s Avenue; Anna Abdullah of Port Mourant, Corentyne; Padmawattie Nandalall of D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice; and Anita Harry of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne.
Each mother received hampers and tokens from Ansa McAl Group of Companies and Republic Bank (Guyana) Ltd.
