In what was billed as a rematch of the Guyana Softball Cup four open final, Regal rebounded
after losing that encounter against Wolf’s Warriors with a comprehensive 65-run victory over the said opponents to capture the Rohan and Ramchand Auto Spares open title on Sunday night last.
Regal posted a challenging 215-7 off their allotted 20 overs batting first at Demerara Cricket Club ground. Openers Richard Latif and Keon Joseph laid the foundation with a 100-run partnership before Joseph was dismissed for 18. Latiff and Safraz Esau continued to frustrate their opponents with a 50-run second wicket stand. Latif executed a number of lovely shots on both sides of the pitch and reached his fifty off 24 balls with a double to mid-wicket. He continued to bat positively before losing Esau for 26 (1×4 1×6). Latif struck two fours and eight sixes in a top score of 80 while Ricky Sargeant chipped in with 23 not out (1×4 2×6).
Amir Nizamudeen captured 2-29 and Mark Harold2-42. Wolf’ Warriors were reduced to 11-2 in reply but Amrit Rai and Safraz Karim added 67 for the third wicket to steady the chase somewhat before Karim was dismissed for 30 (3×4,1×6). Wolf’s Warriors lost a few more wickets, but Rai and Leon Leander tried to keep their team in the hunt with a 56-run fifth wicket stand.
But consistent bowling by Regal ensured the asking rate continued to mount, and in an effort to step up the scoring Rai was taken in the deep for 41 (2×4 3×6) while Leander finished unbeaten on 32 (2×4 2×6). Nizamudeen contributed 20 not out (2×4 1×6) as Wolf’s Warriors ended on 150-6 in 20 overs. Privnauth Motilall claimed 2-22 and man of the match Latif 2-25.
