A known felon who was caught with a hammer breaking into a business premises has been jailed for 18 months.
Mahendra Seeratan, 39, a father of three of Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, was on Wednesday jailed by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court on a charge of attempting to commit a felony.
On October 21, at Lot 74 Cumberland, he attempted to break into the business place of Solendra Sattaur.
The case for the prosecution was that around 21:00 hrs on the day in question Sattaur received information that someone was breaking into his business premises. Sattaur who lives at 21C Cumberland immediately summoned the police and descended on the scene where the bandit was caught in the act of breaking a western door.
He was arrested and taken to the Reliance Police station.
