Former national striker Devon Millington and Sheldon Shepherd lashed in a goal each to
guide tournament favourites Sparta Boss into the quarter-final of the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition which continued on Wednesday evening at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
Playing in the final fixture of the evening against upstart South Sophia, the two teams battled ferociously for the ascendancy, but could not find the nets in the first period. Shepherd, however, gave Sparta Boss the lead in the 19th minute, before Millington added his four minutes later to add more comfort, an ease they enjoyed until the final whistle sounded.
Former champion Leopold Street opened the night’s proceedings with a hard fought penalty shootout win against Festival City Street Fighters after their encounter ended in a nil-all stalemate in regulation period.
Cross Street then sent giant killers West Back Road packing after surviving in sudden death penalty shootout which became necessary following their 1-1 draw. In another marquee matchup, Albouystown ‘B’ through a solitary strike from Marlon Nedd erased any hope that former national champions Back Circle harboured of reaching another final, while the consistent Globe Yard made it to the next stage at the expense of Albouystown ‘A’ who they defeated 2-1 o penalty kicks after being deadlocked at nil-all in regulation time.
