Relatives have finally come forward to identify the music cart vendor whose 25-year-old co-worker stabbed him to death on Friday at the City Electronics and Recording Bar in Camp Street.
Kaieteur News understands that relatives visited Lyken Funeral Parlour late yesterday and identified the victim as Trevor Ragubhir, 18.
He had no fixed place of abode.
Ragubhir, called ‘Fine Man’, was reportedly slain by another music cart operator around 02.30 hrs on Friday during a dispute with another music cart operator over a hammock.
But the killing went unnoticed until about 6:30 hours that day, when a resident of the premises spotted the co-worker washing blood from the concrete in the yard. The suspect admitted that he had killed ‘Fine Man’. Residents found Ragubhir’s body near a fence at the back of the building. He made no attempt to escape and was taken into custody at the scene.
Police also retrieved a large knife from the suspect.
Kaieteur News understands that the alleged killer told police that he stabbed Ragubhir after the victim attacked him with an ice pick. He also reportedly complained that the other push cart vendor did not want him to sleep in a hammock on the premises.
The suspect is said to have recently completed a stint in the Camp Street jail and was invited to the music cart operation by the man he later killed.
The owner of the City Electronics and Recording Bar explained that the killer and victim would operate their push-carts by day and sleep on the premises at night. Kaieteur News was told that the men would normally take turns sleeping in the hammock, which is reportedly owned by the victim.
