The fight for quarter-final spots produced some riveting performances when the Group
stage of the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition concluded on Sunday evening, at the Demerara Park, Ruimveldt.
Among the teams rallying from the brink of exit were Island All Stars who showed enough determination to squeeze past North Sophia and Alexander Village, 1-0 winners over eventual Group champion West Front Road.
Defending champion Queen Street of Tiger Bay were eliminated after finishing third in their Group.
The sixteen teams to qualify are: Leopold Street, Albouystown ‘B’, South Sophia, Festival City Warriors, Island All Stars, Hope Street of Tiger Bay, Albouystown ‘A’, Globe Yard, Back Circle, West Front Road, Alexander Village, Cross Street, Sparta Boss, Festival City Fighters, West Back Road and North Ruimveldt.
Quarter-final action is set for tomorrow evening, at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
