A West Berbice man is now a patient at the Georgetown Hospital after he was shot in the face on Wednesday evening, allegedly by an intruder.
According to reports, the man, 46-year-old Lester Cummings called ‘Como’, of 55 No 8 Village West Coast Berbice, lives alone.
He told investigators that he had retired to bed around 23:00hrs. He said that he was awakened shortly after by an intruder armed with a gun. The man shone a light in his face and told him to “give me the gold and money.” Cummings said that he told the intruder that he that didn’t have any money and the man shot him to the left side of his face before escaping.
After he was shot, Cummings made a number of telephone calls and a friend subsequently arrived and took him to the hospital.
Cummings was rushed to the Fort Wellington, before being taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Hospital for emergency surgery to remove the bullet that was lodged in his face. He remains hospitalised.
