Astell Collins, considered Dr. Myles Munroe’s international youth ambassador, just returned from the Global Leadership Forum held in Freeport, Bahamas. At the time of the tragic plane crash Mr. Collins was flying above the storm. He got the news of Myles Munroe’s death as he was checking into the hotel.
Astell and his twin brother, Allister, were introduced to Dr. Munroe through a book when they were about 11 years old.
“This book revolutionized the way I saw myself and how I would perceive the world”, Astell exclaimed. As a result, he began a journey of self discovery. Over the coming years he would consume more of Dr. Munroe’s books.
Astell authored a book of poetry called, “The Voice within His Voice” and went on a Caribbean tour that ended up in the Bahamas at his first Global Leadership Summit hosted by Dr. Munroe. “One could imagine my amazement, to be in an environment with world leaders, Business leaders, members of the diplomatic corps and Dr. Munroe himself, who became my mentor,” Astell said.
It was at that leadership summit that Mr. Collins was invited to visit South Africa. He honoured that invitation and stayed in South Africa for a month addressing churches, schools and universities.
Astell conducted an extraordinary number of leadership seminars, conferences and workshops across the various provinces and to an even wider variety of stakeholders which included governmental institutions, prisons, corporate businesses, universities, schools, NGO’s and orphanages.
His work was so impressive that he received a national special recognition award which ranked him as one of the most influential youth as a non-citizen.
It was Dr. Munroe who upon his visit to South Africa met with Astell and encouraged him to return to Guyana and make a contribution to the nation’s leadership development. Astell gladly submitted to his authority and returned to Guyana in December 2012.
Since then he has met with President Donald Ramotar, Military Chiefs of Staff; Speaker of the National Assembly, Caricom’s Secretary General and many other leaders in the nation.
Mr. Collins will be receiving the Golden Rule International Award next year in April in Michigan and this he will be dedicating to Dr. Munroe. He has also accepted an invitation to speak in Pakistan in honour of Dr. Munroe.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
