In a release, the organizers of the Guyana International Football Association (GIFA) have indicated the official launching of the organisation in the United States.
“After months of planning, preparation and hard work, we are proud to announce the official launch of the Guyana International Football Association (GIFA)! GIFA is a global non-profit organisation registered in New York, USA, with committee members from all over the world.”
Speaking about their purpose of the organisation, the release further stated, “Our vision is to ultimately help Guyana become one of the best footballing nations in the CONCACAF region, by integrating resources both locally and internationally to develop and support the game of football at all levels, regardless of age or gender.
GIFA plans to assist the development of football in Guyana through a variety of initiatives such as:
? creating a University to provide young footballers with necessary skills both socially and academically
? community outreach programmes
? organising school tournaments and events
? building a national football academy and much-needed footballing facilities
? representing the needs of Guyanese players based abroad.
We hope to be able to unite Guyanese fans across the world and help develop the quality of football in Guyana through effective marketing, management and delivery of the game in the country.”
“YOUR help is vital to the development of the game. Football in Guyana is at an all-time low and only by working together can we raise the standards of the beautiful game in the country we love,” the release informed.
